AI and Machine Learning Are Reshaping Nanoparticle Drug Delivery Design
Published in Artificial Intelligence, Drugs development & discovery, Nanomedicine.
A new review in Nature Reviews Bioengineering examines how artificial intelligence and machine learning are being integrated into the development of nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems.
The review describes how machine-learning models can help predict nanoparticle properties, screen formulation possibilities, identify new excipients and estimate biological outcomes such as cellular uptake, biodistribution, tumor targeting and therapeutic performance.
The authors also discuss autonomous design–make–test–analyze workflows that connect computational models with experiments, as well as current limitations involving dataset size, standardization and reproducibility.
Why it matters
Nanomedicine has traditionally required extensive trial-and-error formulation work. AI-guided optimization could make this process more predictive and accelerate the development of nanoscale delivery technologies.
