Boehringer Ingelheim and Envisagenics Launch AI RNA-Splicing Drug Discovery Collaboration
Published in Artificial Intelligence, Drugs development & discovery.
Envisagenics and Boehringer Ingelheim have entered a multi-year collaboration focused on finding tumor-specific therapeutic targets created by alternative RNA splicing.
The collaboration uses Envisagenics’ AI-powered SpliceCore platform to identify and validate targets for difficult-to-treat solid tumors. Boehringer Ingelheim may then pursue selected targets using therapeutic approaches such as antibody-drug conjugates, T-cell engagers and multispecific antibodies.
According to Envisagenics, the agreement could result in more than US$1 billion in upfront, research, option, development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments, plus potential royalties.
Why it matters
Alternative RNA splicing can generate cancer-specific molecular targets that are difficult to identify using conventional approaches. AI could help expand the set of druggable targets available for precision oncology.
