Insilico Nominates AI-Designed GIPR Antagonist ISM1354 as a Preclinical Candidate
Published in Artificial Intelligence, Drugs development & discovery.
Insilico Medicine announced on September 30, 2026 that ISM1354, an AI-designed small molecule targeting the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor (GIPR), has been nominated as a preclinical candidate.
The company is investigating potential applications in obesity and related metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes. It reports improved pharmacokinetic and safety profiles relative to an earlier GIPR candidate. Those comparisons remain preclinical company claims.
A preclinical nomination means a compound has been selected for further development. It does not establish human safety, clinical efficacy, regulatory approval, or availability as a treatment. Weight-loss figures reported for an earlier compound in mouse experiments should not be interpreted as human results for ISM1354.
Editorial perspective: the announcement offers another example of AI being used in molecular design. Its medical value will depend on subsequent experimental work and, if development proceeds, clinical trials.
