Alector licenses brain-penetrant GCase therapy AL050 to Genentech
Published in Brain/Neurology, Drugs development & discovery.
On October 5, 2026, Alector announced an exclusive global license agreement giving Genentech rights to develop and commercialize AL050, an investigational enzyme replacement therapy for Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions.
AL050 combines an engineered glucocerebrosidase enzyme, optimized for activity and durability, with Alector Brain Carrier technology designed to transport therapeutics across the blood-brain barrier. Its intended mechanism is to address GCase deficiency and reduce accumulation of lipids associated with cellular dysfunction. This is a development objective, not an established patient benefit.
Alector will receive $100 million upfront and may receive up to $1.17 billion in additional payments if development, regulatory and commercial milestones are achieved, plus tiered royalties. Genentech takes responsibility for development, regulatory activities, manufacturing and commercialization; Alector retains ownership of its carrier platform.
The announcement describes a program moving toward the clinic. It does not report a completed efficacy trial in patients or a marketing authorization for AL050.
