GE HealthCare agrees to acquire SOFIE Biosciences for PET radiopharmaceutical supply
Published in Drugs development & discovery, Scanners and Imaging.
On October 5, 2026, GE HealthCare announced a definitive agreement to acquire SOFIE Biosciences from Trilantic North America for US$945 million in cash. Closing is expected in the first half of 2027, subject to conditions including regulatory approvals.
SOFIE operates a US manufacturing network for PET radiopharmaceuticals, with 15 contract manufacturing sites, 21 cyclotrons and a theranostics-focused development and manufacturing site. This infrastructure matters because fluorine-18 imaging agents have a short half-life and need timely production and delivery.
The agreement also provides US rights to FAPI-74, a PET radiotracer described in the announcement as a Phase III development asset with potential applications across cancers. GE HealthCare already holds rights outside the United States.
The announcement concerns a proposed acquisition and supply expansion. It does not mean the transaction has closed or that FAPI-74 has received a new marketing approval. Its imaging potential remains subject to development and regulatory review.
