Italfarmaco and VeriSIM Life partner on AI-guided HDAC drug discovery

Published in Artificial Intelligence, Drugs development & discovery.

On October 5, 2026, Italfarmaco and VeriSIM Life announced a collaboration to discover and develop small-molecule therapies targeting a selected histone deacetylase (HDAC). The intended disease areas include neuromuscular, fibrotic and rare disorders.

The partnership combines Italfarmaco’s HDAC biology, medicinal chemistry and clinical development expertise with VeriSIM Life’s BIOiSIM and AtlasGEN platforms. According to the companies, AtlasGEN designs synthesizable molecules, while BIOiSIM evaluates pharmacology, exposure, safety, biomarkers and patient variability to help prioritize candidates.

The companies describe the approach as mechanistic AI: computational predictions informed by biology are intended to guide molecule design and optimization. These platform claims should be distinguished from demonstrated clinical benefit.

The agreement has a stated potential value exceeding US$100 million, encompassing service fees, development, regulatory and commercial milestones, and royalties on future products. This figure is not a disclosed upfront payment.

This is a drug discovery partnership announcement. It does not report human trial results, an approved medicine from the collaboration, or proof that AI predictions will translate into successful treatment.
