CSL and Alentis Therapeutics announced a global collaboration to develop and co-promote lixudebart, an investigational monoclonal antibody targeting exposed claudin-1. The programme focuses on rare kidney and liver diseases involving inflammation and fibrosis.
Alentis will receive an initial US$355 million and could receive up to US$1.2 billion in commercial milestones. These contingent payments are not guaranteed. If commercialised, global profits would be shared 55% to CSL and 45% to Alentis.
CSL will fund completion of the ongoing Phase 2 RENAL trial and a planned Phase 3 study in ANCA-associated vasculitis with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. The partners also plan Phase 2 development in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis.
The announcement establishes funding and development commitments, not regulatory approval. Lixudebart remains investigational; early findings cited by the companies require further clinical evaluation before therapeutic benefits can be established.
