Digital CMC Consortium launches to standardize drug development data — October 6, 2026
Published in Drugs development & discovery, Tools.
October 6, 2026 — The Digital CMC Consortium announced its public launch as a nonprofit industry collaboration focused on digitizing Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls, the development and manufacturing information needed to establish pharmaceutical quality.
Founding participants include Novartis, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Takeda, Rockwell Automation, Flagship’s Pioneering Medicines, Stellix, ZS Associates and QbDVision. The group aims to replace fragmented document-based exchanges with reusable, interoperable data, standardized templates and implementation tools.
Its initial focus is digital technology transfer between drug sponsors and contract development and manufacturing organizations. After a first year of proof-of-concept work, the consortium says it is moving toward broader adoption.
Longer-term ambitions include digital twins, knowledge management, automated document preparation and foundations for artificial intelligence. These are infrastructure goals: the launch announcement does not establish measured reductions in development timelines or demonstrate regulatory acceptance of a particular submission standard.
