SCYNEXIS reports SCY-770 phase 1 results ahead of planned kidney disease study

Published in Drugs development & discovery.

Publication date: October 6, 2026.

SCYNEXIS announced completion of a phase 1 study of SCY-770, an investigational oral direct AMPK activator being developed for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. The company reports favourable tolerability and safety in healthy adults at higher doses than previously evaluated.

The study assessed safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics to support dose selection for a planned phase 2 proof-of-concept trial in patients. SCYNEXIS says that trial remains targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026. Across multiple clinical trials, approximately 300 participants have received evaluation of SCY-770; that figure is not the enrollment of this latest study.

Healthy-volunteer safety results do not demonstrate that the drug slows kidney disease progression. The announced FDA orphan drug designation is also distinct from marketing approval. The planned phase 2 trial remains a future development step.
