FibroBiologics announced a U.S. patent application covering engineered cell aggregates intended to produce therapeutic peptides continuously inside the body. The proposed platform includes GLP-1, GIP and GLP-2 peptides, with potential applications in metabolic and other chronic diseases.
The company describes fibroblasts and other mammalian cells organized into three-dimensional spheroids or organoids. Its goal is sustained peptide secretion after a single administration, potentially reducing the need for repeated dosing. The filing also describes combinations of peptides whose relative production could be adjusted for a disease or patient.
This is an intellectual-property and research announcement. A patent application is not a granted patent or a regulatory approval, and the release does not establish clinical effectiveness, weight-loss benefits or the safety of sustained peptide production in patients. Those questions require experimental and clinical evidence.
