The U.S. National Institutes of Health announced on October 7, 2026 that it is coordinating with the Department of Energy, Biohub and other partners to prepare data and resources for predictive models of human biology.
Through its Bio Genesis Mission, NIH plans to combine existing biomedical datasets, national infrastructure and research programs. The goal is to help researchers model how cells and biological systems respond to disease and potential interventions.
NIH identifies existing biomedical repositories, biological atlases and shared data standards as foundations for the effort. Biohub’s accompanying announcement describes a combined $1.8 billion commitment across funding, data, computing and measurement technology; that figure is not presented as a new NIH cash award.
This is a research infrastructure initiative. Improved disease prediction and treatment discovery are objectives, rather than validated clinical outcomes announced today.
