bioAffinity Receives Japanese Patent Allowance for CyPath Lung AI Method
Published in Artificial Intelligence, Noninvasive.
October 8, 2026 — bioAffinity Technologies announced that the Japan Patent Office has issued a Notice of Allowance for a method combining automated flow cytometry and machine learning to assess the likelihood of early-stage lung cancer.
The application covers analysis of sputum using CyPath Lung. The test uses samples collected at home and evaluates cell populations with flow cytometry and proprietary AI to help assess indeterminate pulmonary nodules in people at high risk for lung cancer.
According to the company, the anticipated patent would be its first Japanese patent covering the AI-driven approach and its fifth Asian patent protecting the test. Its portfolio currently includes 22 awarded patents and 36 pending applications.
This is an intellectual-property milestone. Patent issuance remains expected after payment of the applicable fee; the announcement does not report a new clinical trial or a Japanese marketing authorization. CyPath Lung is marketed as a laboratory-developed test and should be interpreted alongside other clinical findings.
