Calgary Health Foundation announced on October 7 that a $1.8 million donation from philanthropist Leslie Bissett will fund the purchase of a PET/CT scanner for Calgary’s women’s cardiovascular health initiative.
The planned equipment supports assessment of blood flow through the heart. The foundation highlighted microvascular disease, which can help explain cardiac symptoms even when larger coronary arteries appear normal. The initiative aims to improve access to diagnostic evaluation for women in Southern Alberta.
This is a funding and infrastructure announcement, rather than evidence of outcomes from a newly installed scanner. The foundation says the space is under construction and scheduled for completion in fall 2027. The announcement does not report patient outcome data from the planned installation.
