Ribo submits European phase 1 application for INHBE-targeting obesity drug RBD3133
Published in Drugs development & discovery.
October 8, 2026 — Suzhou Ribo Life Science and its Swedish subsidiary Ribocure announced a European clinical trial application for RBD3133, an experimental small interfering RNA (siRNA) medicine being developed for overweight and obesity.
The candidate is designed to silence INHBE, which encodes activin E. Ribo cites human genetic associations between naturally occurring loss-of-function variants in this gene and healthier fat distribution and metabolic characteristics as its rationale for the target.
The proposed first-in-human phase 1 study is randomized and placebo-controlled. It would assess safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics after subcutaneous administration in participants with overweight or obesity.
The announcement concerns an application submission, rather than trial authorization or clinical results. It does not establish that RBD3133 causes weight loss or reduces cardiovascular risk in patients. Genetic associations support a hypothesis; they do not demonstrate the benefits or risks of administering this drug.
