XCath Iris stroke robot enters FDA TAP advisory programme

October 8, 2026 — XCath announced that its Iris Surgical Robotic System has entered the FDA’s Total Product Life Cycle Advisory Program (TAP) Pilot. The device is being developed for remote robotic-assisted mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke.
TAP enrollment follows the device’s Breakthrough designation granted on September 2, 2026. The advisory programme supports early engagement on clinical development, regulatory strategy and adoption, including dialogue with healthcare stakeholders.
Iris is designed to let a specialist manipulate endovascular devices through a remote control console. The intended goal is to improve access to specialist stroke intervention where geographic distance limits care.
The system remains under development and is not cleared for commercial distribution in any country. TAP participation does not waive regulatory requirements or guarantee future authorization. The announcement describes a development milestone, without presenting new comparative evidence of patient outcomes.
