Araceli and Ginkgo integrate high-content imaging into Nebula’s autonomous lab

Published in Artificial Intelligence, Biology, Scanners and Imaging, Tech News, Tools.

October 9, 2026 — Araceli Biosciences and Ginkgo Bioworks announced on October 8 that Araceli’s Endeavor high-content imaging instrument has been integrated into Nebula, Ginkgo’s autonomous laboratory in Boston.

The companies report imaging a 1,536-well plate in under four minutes, with ClaireRT software analyzing wells during image acquisition. If a well falls outside predefined criteria, the system can notify operators or the laboratory platform, or stop imaging for intervention.

Nebula connects instruments through modular Reconfigurable Automation Carts containing robotic arms, sample transport and common control software. Ginkgo reports more than 100 carts supporting experiments that run around the clock.

The integration aims to increase the volume of cellular data available for training and evaluating AI models in drug discovery. Its practical contribution is to connect image acquisition and quality checks directly with automated experiments.

The speed and operational figures are company-reported. The announcement does not establish that the integration improves drug efficacy, clinical outcomes or the accuracy of a particular AI model.
