Life Biosciences reports initial ER-100 safety and visual-field observations in three patients

Published in Biology, Brain/Neurology, Drugs development & discovery.

October 9, 2026 — Life Biosciences released initial human results on October 8 from its ongoing Phase 1 study of ER-100, an experimental epigenetic therapy for optic neuropathies.

Three participants with open-angle glaucoma received an intravitreal injection plus eight weeks of oral doxycycline to activate expression of OCT4, SOX2 and KLF4. The company reported no serious adverse events or dose-limiting toxicities through Day 56. Its safety monitoring board recommended moving to the next dose level.

Visual-field testing showed preliminary improvements in two participants. In each, at least 28% of tested points improved by more than four decibels. These observations come from a small, open-label safety study and do not establish treatment efficacy, durable vision restoration or reversal of human aging.

ER-100 aims to restore function in damaged retinal ganglion cells through controlled gene expression. Larger studies and longer follow-up will be needed to assess clinical benefit and risks. The investigational treatment remains in clinical development.
