XORTX Plans Canadian Clinical Trial Application for XORLO Gout Program

Published in Diseases!, Drugs development & discovery.

Publication date: October 9, 2026.

Calgary-based XORTX Therapeutics announced on October 8 that it is preparing a Clinical Trial Application to Health Canada for its XRx-026 gout program. The planned study evaluates XORLO, the company’s proprietary formulation of oxypurinol, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor.

The proposed two-part study, XRX-OXY-102, includes a first stage that the company intends to conduct in Canada. That stage would extend characterization of the commercial tablet formulation, building on previously reported results. XORTX expects the work to support a future U.S. New Drug Application while advancing its Canadian regulatory strategy.

The program aims to provide another treatment option for gout, including patients who cannot tolerate allopurinol. The October 8 announcement supplies a development update rather than new comparative efficacy or safety results.

The application was described as planned, not accepted or authorized. Trial initiation, completion, and subsequent marketing approval remain dependent on regulatory review and clinical evidence. XORTX also reported interest from potential commercial partners but said no such agreement had been signed.
