Affinia Therapeutics announced on October 9 that its investigational gene therapy AFTX-201 and the Phase 1/2 UPBEAT trial will be featured at the Heart Failure Society of America’s 2026 meeting. An oral presentation is scheduled for October 10.
AFTX-201 targets BAG3-associated dilated cardiomyopathy. It is designed as a single intravenous infusion using an engineered adeno-associated virus capsid to deliver a functional BAG3 gene to the heart.
According to the company, animal studies showed increased cardiac BAG3 protein, restored heart function, and reversal of structural abnormalities. These are preclinical findings and do not establish comparable benefits in patients.
UPBEAT is evaluating safety, tolerability, pharmacodynamics, and preliminary efficacy in adults with BAG3-associated disease. Affinia reports trial availability at institutions in the United States and Canada and Health Canada authorization for the Canadian trial.
The announcement highlights the development program and planned scientific presentation; it does not report new human efficacy results. AFTX-201 remains investigational.
