Chai Discovery announced a collaboration with GSK on October 9 after the pharmaceutical company evaluated its AI molecular-design technology in laboratory experiments.
GSK will receive access to Chai’s platform, including models for protein folding and design, to support discovery work across its pipeline. According to the announcement, Chai generated molecular designs for GSK targets without training specifically on those targets. GSK then tested the designs internally and identified binders for every target included in the evaluation.
The result provides laboratory evidence supporting the expanded collaboration, but the release does not disclose the number or identities of the targets, detailed binding measurements, or a comprehensive comparison with other methods. Finding a binder for each tested target also does not mean that every generated design worked.
The work remains at the preclinical discovery stage. Molecular binding alone does not establish therapeutic activity, manufacturing suitability, safety or benefit in patients. Further development and clinical testing would be required before any resulting candidate could become a medicine.
