vTv Therapeutics announced October 10 that research on hypoglycemia-related burdens was presented at the Breakthrough T1D Clinical & Research Congress in Philadelphia. The online survey, commissioned by vTv and conducted by dQ&A, included 674 adults with type 1 diabetes, including 429 using automated insulin delivery systems.
Among automated-delivery users, 24% reported frequent Level 2 hypoglycemia, 12% reported a Level 3 event during the previous year, and 17% reported impaired awareness of low blood glucose. The company estimated that approximately 54% experienced at least one of four burden dimensions after accounting for overlap and weighting for A1C.
The findings suggest that automated delivery does not remove every hypoglycemia-related concern. They are self-reported survey results, rather than a randomized comparison of devices, and do not establish the burden in every population using these systems.
The announcement is not an efficacy result for cadisegliatin, vTv’s investigational oral adjunct to insulin. Its safety and effectiveness for the proposed use remain under investigation.
