New review maps mRNA nanomedicine strategies for diabetic wound repair

Published in Diseases!, Journals, Nanomedicine.

Published: October 11, 2026. Review published online: October 9, 2026.

A new review in Nanomedicine by Li Yanhui, Wenhu Zhou and Xian-Mei Yu surveys messenger RNA delivery strategies for diabetic wound repair. Chronic inflammation, impaired blood-vessel formation and disrupted tissue remodelling make these wounds difficult to heal.

According to the authors’ abstract, the review covers ionizable lipid nanoparticles, polymeric nanoparticles, hydrogels and microneedles designed to protect RNA and improve its local delivery. The goal is temporary production of therapeutic proteins within the wound environment. Proposed mechanisms include adjusting macrophage activity, resolving inflammation, supporting new blood vessels and regulating oxidative stress.

The authors searched literature published between 2010 and 2026 and discuss biosafety, regulatory barriers and limitations of preclinical models. This is a review of emerging approaches, not a new clinical trial demonstrating faster healing in patients. This brief is based on the published abstract; it does not assess the full paper or individual experimental protocols.
