SNT-4728 shows exploratory motor-score improvement in small iRBD trial

Syntara and trial funder Parkinson’s UK reported additional results from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 study of the experimental anti-inflammatory drug SNT-4728. The trial enrolled 41 people with isolated REM sleep behaviour disorder (iRBD), a condition associated with an increased risk of Parkinson’s and related neurodegenerative diseases.

Thirty participants received SNT-4728 and 11 received placebo for 12 weeks at sites in Oxford and Sydney. According to Parkinson’s UK, clinician-assessed movement scores improved in the treatment group and worsened in the placebo group. The difference was statistically significant at week 24, twelve weeks after treatment stopped.

The funder reported no change in assessments of sleep, thinking and memory, or quality of life in either group. These motor findings add to imaging results announced in July, but the small, exploratory study does not establish that the drug prevents Parkinson’s or slows long-term neurodegeneration. Larger trials are needed.
