Micot Pharma announced on October 12 that it presented MT200605 research at the MDS congress held October 4–8 in Seoul. The work combines Huntington’s disease mouse experiments with an initial intravenous study in healthy volunteers; it does not report efficacy in Huntington’s patients.
The MDS abstract describes MT200605 as a small-molecule TrkB agonist. In transgenic mice, oral treatment was associated with better motor coordination, less brain atrophy and reduced cortical mutant-huntingtin aggregation. Cell experiments also showed activation of TrkB/AKT signaling and increased mitochondrial ATP production.
The randomized, blinded, placebo-controlled Phase I study evaluated escalating intravenous doses in healthy adults. The abstract reports dose-related exposure and little accumulation after repeat dosing; the company described drug-related adverse events as mild and self-limiting.
Evidence limits: Mouse findings cannot establish human disease modification. Early safety and pharmacokinetic observations in healthy volunteers do not demonstrate efficacy or long-term safety in Huntington’s disease. The oral mouse formulation and intravenous human formulation also represent different experimental settings.
