Northwestern Medicine Integrates OpenEvidence into Epic for Clinical Teams

Published in Artificial Intelligence, Tech News, Tools.

Published October 12, 2026.

Northwestern Medicine and OpenEvidence announced an electronic-health-record collaboration on October 12. Since October 8, clinicians at the health system can launch the medical AI search platform from Epic with automatic sign-in using existing hospital credentials.

The deployment extends access to nurses, pharmacists and other clinical staff as well as physicians. The stated uses include checking medication information, reviewing guidelines and retrieving answers with references to medical literature, including the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA Network.

The organizations describe this as the first phase of a broader collaboration on clinical workflows. The integration is intended to make evidence retrieval accessible during routine care.

Evidence limits: This is an implementation announcement, not a clinical trial. It provides no measured diagnostic-accuracy results, error rates or patient-outcome improvements from the deployment. Cited answers still require clinical judgment and source verification. October 12 is the public announcement date; the announced access began October 8.
