Tortugas Neuroscience announced Phase 2b obuprazine (TRTL-107) findings on October 12, following presentation at ECNP 2026. Hansoh Pharma conducted the randomized, double-blind trial in 363 Chinese adults with acute schizophrenia across 24 centers.
The study compared three obuprazine dose ranges, aripiprazole and placebo over 42 days. All obuprazine groups improved the primary PANSS symptom-score endpoint versus placebo. The 1.5–3.0 mg group showed an adjusted change of −28.6 points versus −11.9 with placebo, a −16.7-point difference (p<0.0001).
Tortugas reported adverse-event discontinuation rates of approximately 2.1% for obuprazine-treated participants and 2.5% for placebo. The company plans a U.S. investigational-new-drug application and submission of detailed results for peer-reviewed publication.
Evidence limits: These are company-reported findings from a short trial in an acute, hospitalized population. Numerical differences versus aripiprazole do not alone establish statistical superiority. Longer-term safety, relapse prevention and applicability to other populations require further evidence. Obuprazine remains investigational.
