IBIO-610 plus semaglutide shifts weight-loss composition in a small primate study

Published in Diseases!, Drugs development & discovery.

Publication date: October 13, 2026.

iBio highlighted body-composition findings from an eight-week study of IBIO-610, an investigational Activin E antibody, in obese non-human primates. The October 13 update describes analyses discussed at EASD on October 1, rather than human trial results.

With six animals per group, lean mass accounted for 6% of weight lost with IBIO-610 plus semaglutide, compared with 22% with semaglutide alone. The company separately reported that fat accounted for 93% versus 77% of weight lost at week eight.

The combination used a single IBIO-610 dose alongside twice-weekly semaglutide. These percentages describe the composition of weight lost; they are not percentages of the animals’ total lean mass removed. iBio plans first-in-human studies in the first half of 2027.

Limits: a small, short animal study cannot establish clinical muscle preservation, strength, functional benefit or human safety. Lean mass includes tissues beyond skeletal muscle. The announcement provides no confidence intervals or statistical significance for these comparisons. Projected long dosing intervals also require confirmation in people.
