China clears phase III trial of mesutoclax–orelabrutinib for previously treated marginal zone lymphoma

Publication date: October 13, 2026.

InnoCare Pharma announced late on October 12 that China’s Center for Drug Evaluation had cleared a registrational phase III trial of mesutoclax (ICP-248) combined with orelabrutinib for marginal zone lymphoma after at least one previous therapy. The development expands the company’s late-stage clinical program for the combination.

Mesutoclax is an oral BCL2 inhibitor intended to restore programmed cell death in cancer cells. Orelabrutinib targets BTK. The combination previously received Breakthrough Therapy Designation in China for this patient population; that earlier designation is separate from the newly announced trial clearance.

What remains unproven: this announcement authorizes clinical investigation, rather than marketing the combination for this indication. It reports no new phase III outcomes and does not disclose the planned sample size, comparator or primary endpoint. Earlier conference findings cited by the company cannot establish the benefit–risk profile that the registrational study must evaluate.
