DaltonTx announced today that it has received a Gates Foundation grant to support AI-assisted tuberculosis drug discovery. The project will investigate hundreds of essential and vulnerable genes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis to identify potential drug targets and chemical starting points.
The company plans to combine protein-structure prediction, machine learning and physics-based modelling. It will also assess predictive performance against existing biological and chemical data.
A partnership with the nonprofit Ersilia will make validated models, datasets and workflows available through the Ersilia Model Hub. Planned training and computationally efficient models aim to support researchers working with limited computing resources.
Why it matters: accessible research tools could broaden participation in infectious-disease drug discovery.
Limits: this is a funding and research-programme announcement, not a clinical result. Faster discovery and lower costs are goals to be tested; the announcement does not establish that a new tuberculosis treatment is effective or available.
