Organ Biostasis wins XPRIZE Visioneering concept vote; competition remains proposed

Published October 31, 2026.

Organ Biostasis was voted the overall winning concept at the 2026 XPRIZE Global Visioneering Summit in Malibu, California, according to an October 26 announcement from ATP-Bio.

The concept was developed by Sebastian Giwa, Shannon Tessier, John Bischof, Matt Powell-Palm and Dominika Wilczok. It proposes a global competition aimed at advancing preservation technologies so that living tissues and organs could become available when needed for transplantation and drug discovery.

ATP-Bio describes the recognition as a step toward a proposed US$50 million XPRIZE competition. The distinction matters: selection of a concept does not itself confirm that a funded competition has launched, that final rules exist, or that registration is open.

For organ preservation research, the announcement signals interest in coordinating progress around a shared technological goal. It is an organizational development, rather than a new experimental demonstration of reversible organ preservation.
